Mother Nature Does it Again
Washout from heavy Rain 08/04/2007
This morning a group of club members had a chance to inspect the condition
of the field. While there is significant damage its not as bad as it
could have been. The carpet is covered with a fine layer of silt, but
once it dries we should be able to clean it with push brooms.
The winch table, turn around, and all the ring mounts are still present
and mostly untouched. A few of the ring mounts are filled with dirt, they
may have to be replaced if they can't be cleaned.
The worst damage was done to the drive way in, and the parking area. Debris,
mud and rocks now cover a good chunk of the parking. The river stones that
were placed down still seem to be there, so the ground should be stable
enough to drive upon once the rocks and debris get moved.
So, it looks like non-powered sailplane operations will be down until clean
can be made to the drive back to the turn-around. Those wanting to fly small
electrics should be able to do so, they will just have to park up by the
gate for now. The entire runway looks usable if you don't mind getting your
plane a bit dirty.
Also, there is one bit of good news in all of this. The small bushes that
kept snagging the winch line have been washed away.
