The Las
Vegas Soaring Club has the good fortune to have a great Flying Field,
and an enviable safety record. As we grow, we are signing up new
members every month, we must all become more aware of keeping the flyers and
spectators safe.
When Flying,
most of us have tunnel vision, and are concentrating on our aircraft in the
air. What is happening with your aircraft is not always readily apparent
to other pilots in the air.
To that
end we have established a set of rules as follows:
AMA
membership is required for all flyers, including the 27 MHZ
Park Flyers. Guests
excepted if accompanied by, and flying under the supervision of an AMA
member.
Frequency
control is the responsibility of each pilot. Make sure you have
frequency pin before transmitter is turned ON.
When
your aircraft is in the air, stand at least 10 feet back
from the edge of the carpet, and preferably near the center
East and West. This not only is a safety issue, but
you will find that you hit the runway more often on landing when
you stand back. Do not use these areas
for tweaking your aircraft, that is what the pits are for.
Gliders,
and dead Stick powered models are to be given priority for access to
land on the runway. Always call out when you are
getting ready to land, and the status - ie. "dead
stick". If a Glider pilot calls for
landing, powered models are to clear the approach and landing
area if possible. Glider Pilots should also call "dead stick" to
insure that anyone flying is aware that he/she cannot make a go-around.
Upon
landing on the carpet, immediately retrieve your aircraft and clear
the carpet. Any time you are on, or crossing the carpet and others are
in the air, call out your intentions. Once the carpet is clear,
call out "Carpet Clear"
Winch
training required to operate winch.
NO
flying over pits, cars, or Route 160 to the south.
New
pilots are not to fly without an experienced pilot available to
assist in the event of a problem. This can not only keep others
safe,
but may save your aircraft for another day. On scheduled flying
days there will a plethora of experienced pilots at the field, and
they are all willing to assist you.
In
addition to the Local Field Rules listed here, all flyers are
to be familiar with the AMA Safety rules, and follow them.
When
at the field, we are all safety Officers. If you see someone
not complying with these rules, diplomatically bring
it to their attention. If
you feel uncomfortable doing this, notify one of the Club
Officers.
