Flaps For the EZ Star

After watching several EasyStar e-powered sailplanes at our field I decided that I could use one to fly in the desert around my home. Knowing that I would be very limited to landing space I decided to cut flaps into the wings. I wanted to use the Elapor foam as the hinge so I carefully measured the depth of the cut leaving about 1/16" foam thickness for the hinge. The photos show how this was easily accomplished using a Dremel Router attachment and a 1/16" drill bit as the 'cutter'. I'll use two Hitec HS-55 servos for the flaps.

Here's how I will connect the flap servos, mounted in the wings, to the receiver in the fuse. Similar to the EasyGlider setup. A black marker pen was used to show where I hogged-out the fuse foam for wire/connector clearance. The opposite side of the fuse closes off this area nicely.

I also used this opportunity to run the receiver antenna wire thru the fuse - white tube from the radio to the tail.
